Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 12:38-44.
In the course of his teaching Jesus said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces,
seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets.
They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext, recite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation.”
He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums.
A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.
Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, “Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury.
For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.” – Source: http://dailygospel.org/M/AM/
From today’s gospel, there is that challenge from each one of us to share our blessings to others. And doing this one is quite challenging for this requires one’s ability and capacity to get rid of all personal vested interests and this is not easy. Oftentimes, when we share something with others (time, resources, gifts etc.), we can’t deny that in the back of our minds, there is that intention to get and receive something as a benefit.
Just like the woman in the gospel of today, we are called to be sharers of good things to others. When we look upon our life, we should have no reason to complain and instead, we indeed need to be grateful for our gifts and if the situation allows it, share our blessings to others. In the event of sharing, never let your left hand knows what the right hand is doing. Better keep it to yourself when you are able to extend assistance to somebody and never like those hypocrites who help others but with their own interests in tow.
Remember well that sharing is great when accompanied by genuine desire to extend to others some good things in life.
